Policy Post. No 12,  March 2011

11 March 2011, Balkan Policy Institute (IPOL) organized its first round table in the framework of the project entitled: “Public procurement, competition and consumer protection”, project which is being supported by SOROS Foundation.
The main aim of this project is focused on implementation of legal framework, and implementation of public procurement contracts and competition. These two areas have a direct impact on fighting and preventing corruption, economic development and free market. Public procurement was criticized on Progress Report for Kosovo; also reforms in this sphere will have a great impact for Kosovo’s integration on European Union.
Mr. Safet Hoxha stated that priority of PPRC is to make laws on public procurement conform Copenhagen criteria, where in decisive way the implementation of policies in direction of free market is required, also this criteria is incorporated in Kosovo’s Constitution. In this direction Kosovo has made a good progress, by harmonizing the legislation on the field of public procurement with directives 2004/17 and 2004/18 of European Union.
